Cases of deportations and forced returns to Mexico continue to rise. There is nowhere for deportees and returnees to go when they come back to Mexico after suffering persecution as immigrants in the US. For the past 8 years, we have knitted a safe space at Otros Dreams en Acción, which we call Pocha House, to assist our community with a dignified return. We grew and flourished, but now they want to uproot us. Gentrification expelled us. A safe and dignified space is more urgent than ever. With your help, we can re-open the doors of our home to those who need it most.

ODA remains the only organization in Mexico that serves and is led by the returned and deported community. Not only do we provide essential services for members of that community, but we also utilize artivism as a means of amplifying their voices, celebrating their stories, and generating a change in the narrative about migration and returning.

Our volume of accompaniment has increased substantially this year, as we are now accompanying more deported women and elderly people.

People who have been received and “apapacado” (received our care and embrace) in the events taking place in Pocha House, our community, and artivist space.

Beneficiaries of our informative sessions and the distribution tools created to know your rights and for the defense of our communities in Mexico and the U.S.

🏠 Pocha House is our community center. It is where the offices of Otros Dreams en Acción are located, and where we receive and accompany people after their return and deportation. Now, we have had no choice but to provide accompaniment in public spaces such as parks and borrowed offices, to virtual spaces.
🏠 Pocha House is a place where we do not have to choose or hide who we are, where you don’t have to translate yourself or your experiences, because those who inhabit it have gone through the same thing.
🏠 Pocha House is a place to narrate again, where we heal with art that flourishes, and where we fight so that our rights are respected.
We are an organized community that has been navigating life after a forced return or deportation. If you are a returnee or deportee, or know anyone who is looking for accompaniment, ODA is here for you.

We are returned migrants. Our families were forced to migrate from our land in Mexico due to the violence and poverty. We grew up undocumented in the U.S., a place we called home, just to suffer family separation and exile later on. ODA creates and strengthens a sense of community with artistic programs, and accompanying people from different identities and backgrounds in an intergenerational manner so they can access their identity, education, and health rights, which are still being denied in our country.
Today we fight for family reunification, for a dignified return to our territories, a dignified mobility, and the right to migrate or not migrate.
